The Mother's Society was organized on the feast of the Holy Rosary, October 2, 1887. On that day, a little band of Catholic pioneer women met with their pastor, Rev. P. A. Heckman, for the purpose of organizing an Altar Society.
At the second meeting on December 9 of that year, a permanent organization was formed. Twenty-two members were enrolled. At this meeting the following officers were elected: Mrs. Mary Ranly, president; Mrs. Catherine Hoelscher, secretary; (Mrs. Catherine Hoelscher later resigned and was succeeded by Mrs. Christina Jansing) and Mrs. Clara Wunsch, treasurer.
Officers in 1927 were Mrs. Ida Kasbert, President, Mrs. Rosa Rabroker, Secretary, and Mrs. Cecilia Fuchs, Treasurer. Treasurer's balance at the end of 1927 was $83.80.
Officers in 1928 were Mrs. Lena Geistman, President; Mrs. Lizzie Hoelscher, Secretary, and Mrs. Bertha Boeselt, Treasurer.
Officers in 1932 were Mrs. William Ranly, President, Mrs. Henry Wilde, Vice-President, Mrs. J. F. Kahlig, Secretary, and Mrs. Peter Voltin, Treasurer. Treasurer's balance at the end of 1931 was $112.18 and membership was 144 ladies.
An agreement was made in 1939 that if a member of the Society lost her home by fire or storm, a donation of $10.00 would be made.
The Christian Mother Society celebrated its Golden Jubilee on December 9, 1937. The members attended a High Mass offered by the pastor, R. P. Schertz, for the living and deceased members of the society. Members present at the Mass received Holy Communion. Of the first original 22 members, three were present: Mrs. Josephine Ernst and Mrs. Augusta Gerngross, both of Rowena, Texas, and Mrs. J. G. Bockholt of Westphlalia. The society then had 156 members.
All ladies (age 18 and over), who are members of the parish, are considered members of this Society.
No dues will be collected.
All are encouraged to attend the society meetings and participate in its activities.
